Mission
The Hungarian Innovation Agency’s (HIA, Nemzeti Innovációs Ügynökség – NIÜ in Hungarian) mission is to strengthen Hungary’s innovative capacity by addressing the changing needs of the innovation ecosystem, connecting the actors within and spreading the culture of innovation in Hungary.
Main goals of HIA:
Increasing Hungary’s innovation performance and capacities by
- Enhancing the pipeline of innovative entrepreneurs and researchers
- Facilitating the access of innovative SMEs and startups to international markets
- Fostering an innovation-driven environment and enhancing the global visibility of the ecosystem

Activities
NIU has a variety of services, addressing from the idea to the market entry, from student education to innovative companies all level and maturity of the innovative activities.
- Promoting STEM careers and the Hungarian Startup University Program engaging students in scientific, innovation and entrepreneurial activities.
- Facilitating university-industry collaboration by launching Technology Transfer Companies at universities to bridge academic research and commercialisation.
- Partnering with SMEs to drive innovation, offering consulting, technology adoption guidance, and access to research and funding.
- Facilitating businesses to expand internationally and promote collaborations through its XPAND and Enterprise Horizon Programs.
- Participating in EU (mainly Horizon) collaboration projects to enhance the Hungarian innovation ecosystem
